Easter Weekend

Caleb's first Easter was a blast. We headed to Gwynn's Island Friday evening and celebrated with my family down there Saturday. It was a beautiful day and we spent most of it outside. We went for a walk, ate a ton of food, watched the little ones open their Easter baskets, hung out on the little beach that there is, watched the dogs swim, and then spent the remainder of our time out on the pier while my dad and brother fished. Sunday we spent the morning at church and then spent the day with the Kriegers where we again had a delicious meal.

6 months

Dear Caleb,

Your daddy and I can hardly believe that you've been around for 6 months now - that's half a year!! It's even crazier to think back when you were born and how 'little' and unresponsive you were. Those first few weeks were precious to us, but we are having sooo much fun with you now.

You recently began to sit up on your own fairly well and you still love to stand up. You crack up at any animal noise and if we fake sneeze. You love the song "The Lord's Army" and think playing peek-a-boo is the best game ever. You're ticklish on your sides and under your chin. Your hands are constantly in your mouth and the amount of drool that comes out of your mouth is ridiculous.

This month you've spent a lot of time outside with us gardening and hanging out on the front porch. You weren't too sure of the sand on your feet at the bay, but loved watching the dogs swimming in the water. For Easter you got some water shoes, bathing suits, hats, and sunglasses from Gramma, so you are all set for summer and we are bound to make you a river rat!

You are now swaddle-free at night. It took a couple of sleepless nights to break you from it, but now you just sleep with your blankie. You had a week where you slept from 8pm until 7am, but unfortunately recently you began to wake up again around 5am. We're hoping you'll go back to sleeping through the night soon - uninterrupted sleep was like heaven for us!

Something we've also seen in you this month is that you love being around people. Big crowds don't scare you and you do well with strangers. We started putting you in the nursery during church and the workers always comment how content you are. Once again, it shows your daddy and I that you truly are one happy baby.

Caleb, you are becoming more and more a joy to your daddy and I. We love seeing your personality coming out more with each month. Your big blue eyes, toothless grin, and rosy red cheeks (oh those cheeks...) make our heart melt. We definitely think you are the cutest baby in the world.

Here's two photos for your viewing pleasure...because I couldn't decide which one was cuter.

Excuse the nakedness...with no AC in our house...it's HOT.

nostalgic

Tanzania has been on my mind a lot recently. There are so many things that I miss and people that I hope to see again one day.

Some of the things I miss are:

all the fresh (and cheap) veggies and fruits from the market right down our street.

the walk to our friend's house.

Smokey and The Bandit, our 'guard' dogs and companions.

seeing breathtaking views like this one.

our pastor and his family.

bajaji rides.

the various dukas (mini 7-11s).

the wildlife.

precious moments like this.

happiness.

Being that it's Monday and we've had 2 sleepless nights in a row (Caleb has had digestive issues that are making us go to the doc today), I surprisingly am in a really good mood because of these things:

*the high for today is 80 degrees.
*my good friend welcomed her adorable son into the world on Friday.
*i'm wearing flip flops today.
*i ran the monument 10k.
*the sun is shining.
*planting day will be here very soon for my veggies and flowers.
*i can wear short sleeves today and not be cold.

I love how warmer weather makes everything better!
